Audubon Florida, working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s staff and dedicated volunteers, strives to protect birds that nest on beaches in Florida. Education of the public, beach steward patrol, posting of nesting colonies, predator control, and other actions are making a difference. Learn how this is working from Audubon Florida’s Holley Short.
Holley is the Tampa Bay area’s Shorebird Program Manager for Audubon Florida. Her work involves coordinating with the public, private landowners, and volunteers to promote awareness of breeding and non-breeding shorebird species. Holley is a graduate of the University of Florida and found her love of shorebirds on the beaches of Sanibel. In her free time, she likes to travel, cozy up with a good book, and spend time with her husband and menagerie of pets.
